My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has

published three book including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.

                                  I have a great deal of admiration for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Since he left the White House, he has tried to help people in the United States and all over the world

with the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity. Now, he is trying to help defuse tensions between the

United States and North Korea. In 1994, Carter had negotiated the Legal Framework Agreement that

would put then North Korea's development of nuclear weapons on hold while North Korea got special

nuclear reactors for two power plants in exchange. As we know, North Korea cheated on this and 

developed nuclear weapons anyways. From Kim Il-sung to current North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, 

the North Korean government has made its intentions clear that it has always wanted to acquire nuclear

weapons and become a nuclear state. I applaud Carter for trying at first to stop North Korea from trying

to acquire nuclear weapons back in 1994. This time, I have to say that he is wasting his time and that

there is no sincerity from the North Korean government to negotiate anything at all. Perhaps, there never

was any sincerity from the North Korean government to negotiate in the first place. It seems that North

Korea was simply playing for time to get what free things it could get from the United States, South Korea 

or Japan in exchange for freezing its nuclear program which it never intended to do. At this point, current

U.S. President Donald Trump has not agreed to let Carter go to North Korea to negotiate anything. I think

that President Trump, like myself, sees no point for such a negotiation.
